Asia's top venture capital continues to make a strong push, and the investment heat in Blockchain remains high.
Top Asian Venture Capitalists Make a Strong Push in the Blockchain Field
Despite the increasingly strict regulatory environment, Asia's leading venture capital funds are still actively investing in blockchain and crypto projects globally. Data shows that from January 2021 to June 2022, the top 20 venture capital firms in Asia participated in 495 related investments worldwide.
These active investors mainly come from regions such as Mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and India. Their investment focus is mostly on Blockchain companies in the United States. According to the ranking of global Blockchain transaction volumes, the more active investment institutions include AU21 Capital(59 transactions), Distributed Capital(45 transactions), GBV(43 transactions), HashKey Capital(41 transactions), NGC Ventures(38 transactions), and Basics Capital(12 transactions).
The top blockchain projects in the U.S. favored by these top investors include: the security analysis platform CertiK, the payment platform MobileCoin, the crypto trading platform FalconX, and the blockchain development tool InfStones.
In the Asia region, Singapore has become a major investment destination for these venture capitalists. The Singapore projects they invest in include: the cryptocurrency trading software company Zignaly, the digital asset custody service provider Hex Trust, the gamified platform StarryNift, and the electronic signing platform EthSign developed based on technologies like Ethereum.
From the perspective of the investment sector, blockchain development platforms and infrastructure are the most favored directions. In the past 18 months, 13 out of the top 20 Asian venture capital firms have invested in this field. Among them, Fenbushi Capital and Hashkey Capital have invested in 4 and 3 related companies, respectively. At the same time, DeFi and NFT, as the two fastest-growing areas in cryptocurrency, have also attracted significant investment.
Looking to the future, Singapore is expected to maintain its position as the Southeast Asia Blockchain center. The country is implementing a $12 million Blockchain innovation program aimed at promoting the development of the local ecosystem. At the same time, India may also become a future investment hotspot. Despite facing policy challenges such as taxation, India currently has around 230 crypto startups, and the venture capital heat in the Web3 space is expected to continue rising in 2022.
Overall, Asian venture capital will continue to provide funding support for Blockchain companies in the region. The region's strong user base and the open attitude of some countries towards cryptocurrencies have created a favorable environment for consumer-facing Web3 startups. Meanwhile, regulatory agencies in various countries are actively formulating regulatory frameworks for digital assets, which will lay the foundation for the long-term healthy development of the industry.
