CESS: Innovative Decentralization Storage Network
With the arrival of the Web3 era, decentralized storage networks have gradually become the focus of people's attention. Although traditional decentralized storage technologies perform excellently in file storage, they still face challenges in performance and speed, especially when reading files in dApps. To address these issues, CESS has emerged.
The Three-Tier Architecture of CESS
CESS, as a physical infrastructure network, consists of three functional layers:
Public Chain Layer
The CESS public chain layer is developed based on Substrate and integrates the EVM Pallet module, enabling it to seamlessly run Ethereum smart contracts. Since the testnet went live on January 31, 2024, the number of active nodes has exceeded 7,600.
Storage Layer
The storage layer of CESS is a blockchain-based Decentralization cloud storage system. After files are uploaded, they undergo encryption, sharding, and redundancy processing, and are then randomly allocated to storage nodes. This approach lowers the threshold for storage nodes while avoiding the centralization of storage. Currently, CESS's total storage capacity has reached 45607 TiB, and the verified storage capacity exceeds 10 PiB.
Content Distribution Layer ( DCDN )
The CESS plan aims to launch a Decentralization Content Delivery Network ( DCDN ) in 2025. This will enhance access speed and reduce transaction costs by aggregating and caching data at edge nodes near users. The addition of DCDN will provide a better experience for dApps users, supporting more Web3 applications including NFT, Decentralization streaming, and social media.

Diversified Node Network
The CESS network includes various types of nodes:
Anyone can participate in node operation and mining by staking CESS tokens.
Innovative Consensus Mechanism
CESS adopts the reputation轮值 consensus mechanism (R²S). At the beginning of each epoch, the system selects 11 validating nodes based on the reputation scores and random points of the nodes.
Multiple Copy Recoverable Storage Proof ( PoDR² )
CESS uses PoDR² technology to ensure multiple copies of file storage and recoverability. Each file is stored with 3 copies by default, and the system continuously monitors and timely replenishes lost data slices.
Idle Space Proof ( PoIS )
The PoIS mechanism requires storage nodes to generate a specific set of files in idle space and submit proof, effectively preventing fraudulent activities. This approach both enhances network security and reduces operational costs.
Proxy Re-encryption Technology ( PReT )
PReT allows for the secure conversion of encrypted data without decryption, enabling secure data sharing between users.
