Trump didn't even leave food for Putin, and the US-Russia summit ended hastily in just a few hours, with the Russian president's special plane turning back on the spot.
After 6 years, Trump met with Putin again, taking advantage of the geographical advantage of the U.S. Air Force, first giving Putin a set of "carrot and stick".
The meeting was originally scheduled as a one-on-one talk but ultimately changed to a three-on-three discussion. On the U.S. side, Secretary of State Rubio was accompanied by presidential envoy Whitaker along with Trump, while on the Russian side, Foreign Minister Lavrov and presidential aide Ushakov accompanied Putin.
The speed at which the "Trump-Putin meeting" concluded was faster than the outside world imagined. After nearly three hours of negotiations and a brief press conference, Putin boarded a plane back to Russia, and Trump immediately returned to Washington. The originally scheduled lunch meeting between the American and Russian delegations was canceled.
Neither side explained the reason for canceling the lunch meeting, but from the statements of Trump and Putin, it seems that both the US and Russia need to act quickly to implement the relevant content of the talks. Another possibility is that it is not safe to linger in a place of conflict; honestly, Putin is still very dangerous, especially since Trump himself has been attacked.
Still the same thing, no matter how well Trump and Putin talk during the meeting, if Ukraine does not agree, then the next steps will be difficult to unfold.
In fact, the one-on-one meeting between Trump and Putin ultimately turned into a three-on-three discussion, likely due to pressure from the EU and Ukraine — if Trump and Putin had met one-on-one, Putin might have really succeeded, and Trump would need someone like Rubio, a "Russia hawk," by his side to hold him back.
Putin knows well that in order to deal with Trump, who considers himself a businessman, and to gain benefits from him, there is absolutely no way to avoid "tribute" on his side.
Now aluminum and rare earths are far from enough, Russia needs to offer more benefits to make a "deal" with Trump, and these things require Putin to return home to personally arrange for the next "Trump-Putin meeting" expected to be held in Moscow.
