I attended church today for the first time after a very long time. I just felt a strong urge to go, without really knowing why.

The topic of the sermon was the Book of Mammon and how we shouldn’t make money our god.

One story that was shared really stuck with me:
There was a rich man who owned a large piece of land. One year, he had such a great harvest that his barns couldn’t hold all the yield. So he decided to tear them down and build bigger ones, just so he could store everything and feel secure for many years.

But God said to him:
“You fool. This very night your life will be taken from you. What good are those barns now?”

That hit close to home, especially working in crypto, where we constantly look at numbers, charts, P&Ls. There’s always this feeling of:
“If I just reach X amount, I’ll finally feel safe. I’ll finally be free.”
But in truth, there is no such thing as safety in that sense.

No matter how much you accumulate — in the end, it doesn’t matter before God. It won’t feed your soul.

Money is only good if you use it to help others. That was the central message of the sermon.

There was another story too:
A man spent his whole life chasing wealth. He didn’t care about people, relationships, or love. Just money. When he died, he tried to take his treasure chest with him.

As he approached the chest, he said:
“You’ve always been there for me. You’re my true companion.”

But then something dark happened.
Mammon rose from the chest and laughed.

He said:
“You didn’t own me. I owned you. You worked for me your whole life. You are my slave.”

Especially now, seeing all these liquidations in the market, the constant fear and greed cycles… it’s easy to forget that there are bigger things in life.

And it’s difficult to find that balance: working in crypto, looking at data and money all day, without letting it consume you.
