In May 1987, the abbot of Shaolin, Shi Xingzheng, decided to expel Shi Yongxin from the monkhood due to his violation of the precepts. Unexpectedly, two months later, 73-year-old Xingzheng suddenly passed away, and soon after, 22-year-old Shi Yongxin became the director of the Shaolin Temple Management Committee, beginning to oversee temple affairs.

In 1988, the then-Abbot of Shaolin, Dechan, officially expelled Shiyongxin from the monk registry in accordance with the last wishes of the previous Abbot, Xingzheng. However, it is puzzling that Shiyongxin, who had no monk status, became the 30th Abbot of Shaolin Temple in 1999.

On July 25, 2015, Shi Yanlu, the chief instructor of the Shaolin Temple martial monks, publicly reported this matter online, while also accusing Shi Yongxin of embezzling Shaolin Temple assets, keeping college students as mistresses, and having illegitimate children.

Regarding the report against Shi Yanlu, the investigation team dispatched by the public security bureau of Henan Province ultimately concluded: there is no evidence.
Shi Yanlu was dissatisfied with the investigation results. On October 16, 2015, he reported to the media that Shi Yongxin had very strong connections within the province, necessitating a central investigation.
