The Japanese government has a rare "auction" of rice reserves to curb rice prices

Golden Ten Data on March 11, Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries auctioned the first batch of 150,000 tons of government reserve rice on the 10th to increase the supply of rice in the market and curb the rise in rice prices. Japan's Kyodo News Agency reported that the rice, which will be harvested in 2023-2024, will be handed over to bidders who meet certain conditions, and is expected to be available at the end of March. According to the plan released by the Japanese government on February 14, the government plans to release a total of 210,000 tons of reserve rice, and will decide the timing of the remaining 60,000 tons of rice depending on the situation.
