Japan faces a shortage of rice, with prices rising. Experts say that supply is insufficient and relief is unlikely in the short term.

Jin10 reported on May 21 that rice prices in Japan have continued to rise since around last autumn, with a 10 kg bag of rice quickly climbing from 2,000 yen to over 4,000 yen (approximately 200 RMB). This has placed a heavy burden on the local population. Japanese agricultural experts point out that one of the fundamental reasons for high rice prices is insufficient supply, and under the current circumstances, the situation of high rice prices may be difficult to alleviate in the short term.
