Polygon has announced that its most technically challenging upgrade to date, the Heimdall v.2.0 hard fork, will launch on July 10. The consensus layer is transitioning from Tendermint + Cosmos-SDK v.0.37 to CometBFT + Cosmos-SDK v.0.50. This reduces finality to ~5 seconds with no reorgs beyond two blocks, paving the way for faster checkpoints, smoother user experience, safer bridging, and future scalability. During the migration window, a ~3-hour finality lag is expected, and while unlikely, validators are advised to increase confirmation thresholds to 256 blocks.
