Token2049 Sparks Discussion: Challenges and Opportunities for Chinese in Web3
The Token2049 conference in Singapore came to a lively conclusion. Many attendees shared their observations and thoughts. Zhao Chen's "Token 2049 Takeaways" sparked heated discussions, suggesting that the Web3 world in Europe and America is "excluding" Chinese people, comparing them to "Crypto Jews." This viewpoint prompted responses from several notable figures in the industry.
Wang Feng, the founder of Mars Finance, stated that this is a huge insult to Chinese Web3 practitioners. He believes that Chinese teams are forced to accept lower compensation while taking on more work, akin to "the ties of Web3 civilization." He urges not to underestimate this situation, as this feeling runs deeper than physical pain.
Mindao, the founder of DForce, believes that this sense of identity has a long history and is not unique to Web3. He points out that the current political situation has led to significant capital differentiation and suggests reducing sentimentality and excessive identity perception, focusing instead on the market and talent.
Tron founder Justin Sun stated that he has seen many creative Chinese teams, and Tron will continue to support Web3 Chinese teams and users.
Frank Fan believes that domestic projects are undervalued not only because of nationality and language, but more so because many projects lack an understanding of crypto and come just to make money. He calls for more Chinese entrepreneurs who truly love crypto and are dedicated to working hard.
Conflux co-founder Yuanjie Li provided several suggestions for Web3 entrepreneurs, including strategies for different routes both domestically and internationally.
Many other insiders in the community also shared their views and suggestions on this matter. Overall, everyone believes that Chinese people face challenges in the Web3 field, but there are also opportunities. The key is to improve one's capabilities and continue working, rather than getting overly caught up in identity recognition.
